Ruby Tuesday
Pretty potted geraniums that adorned my backyard table are about to be tucked away for the winter months. But for a short time I shall just enjoy their summer Ruby Tuesday glow as they grace my dining room floor.
Pat ... last year I just shook off the dirt and pulled off the flowers & buds ... then stuck them in a brown paper grocery bag and stuck them in the basement. With such a long winter ... only a few survived.
This season, I'm just trimming them down, re-potting in small pots with fresh soil and watering. The cuttings have been placed in small plastic throw away pots with new soil and watered too. I'll store them on my laundry room counter and hope they come back in the spring.
i've been told that you can cut them all the way down and simply put them into a garage or basement and that they will regrow. i have a co worker who swears this works.
Red geraniums do have a glow about them, don't they. Just imagine the enjoyment they've brought women over the years. Rich and poor alike. I like the wax begonias too...my Grandma always 'wintered' some over...messy as they are, and each pot was the proud home of a real fishing worm, she would let us know.
Dear Mrs. Mac, Me too, me too! How happy I am reading about your geraniums. Just yesterday I took mine in from the terrace and place them in my living room and in my kitchen. I have several years tried to put them in my laundry room (my Mom always did, still does in fact); mine tend to die there. So, I've decided that this year I will try to keep them upstairs and give them a chance. Somehow I think my grandma always had some in her living room. Dear, you gave me a happy Ruby Thursday morning. From Felisol
MM, those are nice big geraniums. Could ours be orange? We just leave ours out all winter, they may get nipped by a freeze but if so they come back healthier the next year. I hope your Rube Red Tu was happy, I'll try to be on time next week. ..

I'll miss their beauty, mine are looking almost the same. Can you store them over the winter?
