Set Your Hearts on Things Above

I'm taking part in monthly writing prompts with the Scarf Sisters. Heaven knows how much this is needed.

February's Blog Prompt:  Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

There is a great rift in our nation and the world that is tearing folks right and left with much passion and angst.  Name calling, political fodder being slung, nasty comments, division in every topic of discussion.  This reaches into our homes via the radio, internet, news, sports, etc.  Families become divided and pitted against each other.

Much has been the result of public media ~ do you really think it's such a good idea to 'say what's on your mind' in a short snippet on Face Book or a Tweet on Twitter?  Is your opinion important?  Yes.  Should your opinion render you to rant and rave and raise your blood pressure?  No.

With a presidential campaign starting up, the mud slinging will once again tear into the fabric of the candidates ~ sordid 'laundry' will be hung on the line for all to see and the churning of stomach acid will be inside the bellies of countless numbers as they chime in their personal opinion for all the world to see or ignore.  In speech, remember one thing before speaking your mind:  LESS IS MORE.

May your words be edifying to God.  May your mind be kept captive to the King of heaven and earth.  May your speech be peppered with grace and kindness.

There is nothing new under the sun.  Mankind has gone through each and every thing in our current affairs over and over throughout history; maybe minus the media .. but still the same.  Guard your heart and eyes, keep your family rooted in the Good Book, stand firm, be kind, and be in prayer ~ most importantly ~ Set your hearts on things above!

This Got Me Thinking ...

About the selection of Mr. O's new desk ;) ... card sharks, smoke & mirrors, a slight of hand ... stacked decks ... and cronyism. The economy, health care, clunkers for cash, two day jobs to plump the job market quotas, state of the nation, and war are better left to the serious minded ... not poker faced politicians.

A Question For God

Dear Lord,

I'm confused. I hope you can help me understand something that has been bothering me. Here goes:

Why do some people who defend the rights of pre-born children and approve of forceful/sanctioned methods used against t^^rorists in an attempt to further thwart said people causing hateful/evil destruction against your creation get 'trashed' by the news media and politicians? and ...

Why do some people pamper and cater to t^^rorists yet do everything in their power to have laws passed approving the termination of innocent pre-born life get promoted as a 'side' for the so called more 'enlightened', people?

Time Will Tell

... hopefully before the new President's honeymoon period is over, how much of a chance our nation (under God) will recover economically, morally, and become a strong union. This union has been so fractured between right/left, conservative/liberal ideals that no matter how much waiving a magic wand over the mix, and calling for togetherness and less divisiveness, you can't force opposite magnetic poles together. Left is left and right is right! A democrat can't bring republicans on board just by saying we have to work together with only democratic/liberal ideas. Just not gonna happen. Liberals can't say their ideas are less liberal when they're not.

I think the new V.P. will be an interesting mix with the new Prez. He has caused much rolling of the eyes and bristled up body language from the new Commander In Chief. Time will tell.

... for dominion belongs to the LORD
and he rules over the nations.

Sunday Thoughts

I'm wondering if Barack Obama is having second thoughts about what he's stepping into. I'm also wondering if John McCain is a little bit relieved that he didn't get elected. What a financial mess the new president will assume once in office. He's not my choice for president, but he surely needs all the prayers he can get. Take time today to pray for our country's leaders both outgoing and incoming. Pray for the jobs that will be lost in the current financial tsunami and that we collectively learn from this debacle. Pray for our troops in far off lands serving our country. Pray for God's wisdom and peace to reign.

Hold On To Your Bonnets

The American people are in for a wild ride. While a lot of blame can be laid at the feet of George W. Bush, he alone did not get our country into it's current funk. There are many political and economical factors that have contributed to his disdain. It's always easy to blame the guy at the top of the pig pile, but he has been held up there by members of both parties. There is no perfect politician ... and THE ONE that is being ushered in may be charming, smooth talking, good looking, but he has a mysterious and daunting past.

The shift in America ... moral issues, corruption, deceit, deviant lifestyles are shoved in the faces of God fearing people who have been told they are hateful homophobes, bigots, zealots for protecting unborn life above the right of a woman's choice. How has evil become good? How can darkness creep in and take root in our society? When evil becomes good ... good people become evil by hiding. If you have Judeo/Christian beliefs .... now more than any recent time ... LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!

14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Washington "Zooacide"

Anyone want to off Washington? How many 'highly educated' nincompoops does it take to float our nation over the falls? Has the bus tram driver fallen asleep at the wheel? Did the zookeeper hand a key to every baboon? You can not learn common sense at Harvard or Yale. It's a quality that must be nurtured from a young age. With so many safety nets in place, our society does not know how to pick itself up after a fall and learn not to climb to the highest tree branch without proper training and equipment. We are over regulated, warned too often for fear of a lawsuit (McDonald's coffee warning comes to mind), that our species is producing more and more offspring just waiting for a Darwin Award. Wake up and smell the coffee America. And to those in far off lands, learn from our nation's mistakes. We were better off with less choice (Walmart), buying fewer/better quality goods made in our own land, employing our own countrymen to work white collar, blue collar, and manual labor jobs. Stop crying foul. Everybody that took part in risky loans, including those who chose to buy more home than they could ever think of affording, needs to be raked over the coals ... I won't even get into the religious aspects of our foul up, but in Old Testament biblical times, God would open up the earth and swallow hoards of foolish people.

?Smart Business News?

In all fairness, how many of you think the national news coverage is unbiased? Be it politics, religion, sexism, environmental issues, etc. Yesterday, I had to call my satellite tv provider to question a charge on my bill. While I had the attention of the customer service representative, I lodged a complaint. "Why does your company peddle all of the liberal media news channels, including the new OBAMA channel, CNN, HNN, MSNBC, and the likes in your basic no frills package, and charge extra to receive the FOX network news channel???? You should give your viewers a choice of coverage." No wonder there are still so many undecided voters wavering on the political fence. I think a little friendly competition between the media companies would be a good thing. Two options are better than being force-fed one. I'm ready to pull the plug on Dish Network.

Ping Pong Politics

Why does the political process in the USA have to resemble a sporting event. Bowl 'em over, hot to trot goody two shoes, spit in your eye flame throwers, your mother wears Army boots, my time to give you a shiner, pull out the rug, obnoxious tale bearers, late night talk show fodder, let's drag this process to the dump, etc. I'm tired of all this campaign stumping. Let's turn off the news, take a deep breath, and let out a big sigh, AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhh. Would all you politicians just SHUT UP! 90% of the people have made up their minds. The other 10% will vote for Ralph Nader; the guy never misses a last minute race to upset the donkey cart or Dumbo elephant ride. I'm not one to wish away precious time ... but I just can't wait for your election day to be over.

Way To Go Sarah

Did you catch the Republican National Convention last night? Whatever your political views, it was refreshing to see a small town girl step up to the plate and deliver a dose of common sense to the American people. For too long, the country has been run by a small elite pack of special interest dogs ... all the while the greater good of our nation has been swept under the rug to pacify the politically correct groups that need to be reigned in. We can only buy foreign and outsource the production of our national products for so long before we the American people have reduced the very products and workforce that sustain our families to nothing. Somethings gotta give. I give Sarah Palin a great big hand for stepping up to the political plate ... her strong sense of family values, ethics, and common sense approach to problems may be just what our nation needs. She makes John McCain shine!
