Oh My Aching Back
Does anyone know how much 2+ feet of snow on your roof equals when it's deposited on the already high pile in one's backyard? How about up to the roof. This morning at 6:30 a crew of snow removal guys came over to remove the snow on my roof. My meager efforts from the other day just barely scratched the surface. I was sure to instruct the men not to dump loads of snow on my spa top. I was sure to pay extra to have them remove the three feet on the walkway to the front porch. But I forgot to tell them (I guess) not let the snow pile up against my glass French door in the dining room. Nor the great room windows ... or my sliding door to my bedroom. The work load created from the roof's snow was beyond belief. I now have a clean roof ... but unusable back patio with over six feet of snow piled. Six feet after we dug a walkway around the house ... and leveled off the eight feet against the door. My bedroom drapes are ready to hang ... but considering I have six feet of snow sitting just outside the door, I may wait a while to finish putting them up.
Oh, the adventures of Mrs. Mac just never seem to end. Today was another moosie day with not one, but two ... a female and a male ... quite near the school bus stop. Between all the snow shoveling and the fright of meeting moose at the bus stop, this gal is soaking her aches and fears away in the hot tub. Maybe after winter I'll have something other than snow and wild critters to write about. For now, that's all I think about.

My sis and fmaily in NB are also facing the same situation. They had to call in the snow plough
A question out of ignorance okay? You know we're eventually going to a build a cabin out west. So, is there any type of roof you would recomend? I am familiar with the metal ones, are those best for lots of snow? Or when it's that much does it even matter? Ha Ha!
Connie
Actually Connie... after my hubby spoke with long timers in our area and our builder, our roof was probably just fine due to its considerable steep slope ... and being a new home the snow load requirements from the county are better than they used to be. I just worry too much ;) ... and read the paper ... and watch the news. Our roof is made of composite material and can withstand 40 lbs of weight per cubic foot (supposedly). Steep pitched metal roofs are good because the snow just slides off after a while ... although my son-n-law says the drawback is poorer reception with cell phones (he works for AT&T)& very pricey This winter is the snowiest on record since about 1915/16. If you are going to build a log cabin ... and there is snow to contend with ... I'd make sure your road is county maintained so you don't have to plow. That was THEE number one thing on our location decision list. That goes for your driveway too ... not too far from the street. There are people in remote areas around our town that are stranded/snowed in.
Think spring, think spring, think spring....did that help? so far it hasn't for me either, but I am trying to stay positive! Watch out for those critters!
Whoa. Guess I shouldn't send you any cute little snowmen with the words "Think Snow" written on them, huh?

Here's to your perfect spring!
yikes! we've been there, with snow on the roof that looked like it could be way too much ... then getting the roof rake and pulling it down (once even being on top of the roof, shovelling it off!) ... then our decks being piled high ... so i know what you mean!
spring is only a little over 2 months away ... hang in there!
Are you out from under all that snow yet? It is cold in this part of the country. Very cold. Freezing cold. Spring will be a good thing.
I just cannot imagine this much snow around someones house, in the mountains yes, but not on a house LOL
Keep warm..
