A Walk Through Time - Part III (at last .. my feet hurt)

Final tour of duty: SS Lane Victory. U.S. Merchant Marine Navel Ship launched in 1945. Used to haul supplies to troops during WWII. This day trip included our son, Patrick. He's currently active duty U.S. Army and is a tank crewman. His vintage uniform for our outing is that of a WWII tank officer. The day began with a cruise around Catalina Island, involved espionage (a spy aboard ship) ... and was supposed to include a 'dog fight' with a bomber plane ... but it was foggy for part of the cruise ... so no plane ... but the big guns were fired. Lunch and a harbor cruise rounded out the day.

A few of these photos are from the Living Time Line at Ft. MacArthur. The military vehicle and women's military uniform 'museum' belong to Bob and Kathy. The gentleman standing in between Mr. and Mrs. Mac is R. Lee Ermey.

Well, it has been fun walking my way through history. Can't wait to find out my next assignment. Stay tuned.

Edit: The charge up San Juan Hill by the three rough riders, left Mr. Mac a casualty of war :(

Looks like lots of fun! Everyone looks so official...but are those sunglasses your wearing government issue? ;)...

You caught me, Pat, with those non-issued sunglasses ;) Mine are prescription ... and do you know how hard it is to come by issued sunglasses? Plus put in a prescription lens?

Sara ... you're supposed to be devoting all your time to the mr. not surfing the web ... now get back to your anniversary weekend ;)

First of all... MacArthur obviously DID return! That a role Mr Mac would be suited for!

Secondly, tell me more about the "Rough Riders" in the photos. I have been reading a lot lately about Theodore Roosevelt so those in particuliar caught my eye!

Connie, the charge up San Juan Hill by the 'rough riders' left Mr. Mac on the 'battlefield' ... I put a link to a site (eyewitness to history) in the edit note. How did you like that MacArthur fellow?

I like the Ford Jeep the best. They are fairly scarce. Do you think the owner would like to trade for a (my) 1950 Ford Tudor?

You are fine, they didn't issue sun glasses back then, you had to buy them at the PX.

I got my hair cuts there too!

Jim ... Ford reconnaissance 'truck' is part of R. Lee Ermey's Mail Call set up. I'm not sure a Ford Tudor would do too well in the 'trenches' ;)

Your walk thru time was very interesting. I'm sure it held many memories for you. (Including some sad ones) Sad memories have a way of making a full life. Even though we wish we could be happy all the time, it's the sad memories that make us enjoy the good times so much. Enjoyed your posts as usual.

I hope your sewing projects go well..I'm glad you are going to give Wednesday Stamper a try later or should I say soon? =)...I got a big smile when I read that in the comment you left me. Last night I cut off and hemmed some sheers from Ikea...they were very inexpensive and have polka dots on them...but I put off doing them for several months! There were 6 panels to measure, cut & hem. They look terrific now that they are up and the tedious part is done. Sewing is very rewarding...guess we just have to overlook the tedious parts!

Shoot I was going to follow this step back in time and then never got back over here. Oh well I never was good at waiting on sequels so now I get to read the entire thing in one sitting. Okay I'll go read.

....sara was 'all over' my blog this past weekend too...what is UP with that?!...

anyway...Brillo Man is retired Army - he would LOVE this reenactment stuff. But I don't know if we could get an authentic uniform in his present size... ahem. :)
