Trials and Temptations of the Homemaker

Earlier this week we were hooked up to the giant "mother ship" in the sky; a connection that is nearly as fast as lightning! No more waiting, yawning, napping, muttering under my breath about molasses in January dial-up! Some days I just gave up waiting and twiddling my thumbs with the many pictures that never completely downloaded. I can zip right on over and visit with friends around the country, and up north in Canada in about 1/10 the time. Now that I don't have an "excuse" for my lack of posts, better get my act in gear and write you guys a letter.

I must admit that yesterday was one of those rare, but lazy days at home. Some times my energy level is pumped with adrenalin ... and once in a blue moon it's "park your fanny" on the couch and sip ice tea til noon. Being a stay at home mom and homemaker, I never get the "luxury" of taking a sick day. That's when a DDS (don't do squat) day is needed. Perhaps twice a year I take the day off, of course that's only during the school hours when I'm home alone ... but a day off now and then is a real SMS (save my sanity) moment. Given that I've been blazing new trails through the wilderness this past year, I guess I won't feel too guilty. Today, though, I put myself in high gear and worked out in the yard ... raking rocks and soil, spreading some wild flower seeds here and there. Adding more kitchen greens and coffee grounds to my growing compost pile, washing loads of laundry, and faux painting a time out stool for Nathan (it has to match my kitchen).

The dog has been behaving (shhh) since her thunder and lightning induced meltdown the other evening! Last night when she started yapping, I took a rolled up newspaper with a bit of Tabasco on it and thumped her nose! That got her attention and she suddenly obeyed when I told her to be quite. Speaking of the other night ... we also lost our power from the thunderstorm. So now picture this ... the dog in the garage without her night light ... and Nathan in his bed (not quite asleep) without his night light! Thankfully, I had an emergency battery operated one to put in my son's room ... the dog just had to be in the dark.

Since I've prattled on and on, you are probably wishing I still had my dial-up connection. Lucky you, it's my bedtime ... Nighty-nite!

"First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started. She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day. She's skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking."

I like the idea of a "DDS" day! Dave has been out of town this week and that's when I either
A) Start some type of a new project like painting
or
B) DDS!

This week was a lot of the latter! Ha Ha-I enjoyed every minute of it!

I too like the DDS days...its only hubby that makes me feel guilty about those rather rare times. He's such a 'go getter'. How wonderful you have high speed...thanks to the 'mother ship' grin. We too have high speed but my pc is as slow as dirt..and you know how that is. Dirt doesn't move at all without manpower or wormpower? I wish I knew why...son thinks its just so loaded with stuff...I tend to save everything I find interesting (of course). My favorites list is a mile long...=). I've got everything from the White House to tatting to how to drop-spin videos...and love it all. Thanks for your delightful comment about making a shoe-box full of collages....will do! You gals give me heart...smile. Hubby is polite but not an art person..though he is proud of me now and again. I'd rather be having fun at my age than organizing the linen closet...yet again! Went over to your New House blog last night..in fact called hubby in to see how BEAUTIFUL everything is! (I'm addicted to exclaimation points...can't help it, and they are just perfect for how I feel too!) Your floors are gorgeous. What kind of wood is that? We built 35 years ago and have all oak hardwoods and have always loved the beauty of wood. We redid our kitchen about 3 years ago and really wanted ash, but went with oak because we could get it prepared faster...and love it. A local guy did the work for us, so we were able to afford some custom features Lowe's would never have done for us etc. Have a nice day Mrs.Mac!

Hi Constance ... I hear you about starting another project. I have about four other pieces of furniture to faux paint ...

Maggie Ann ... One day after I've lived in my home a few years, my walls won't appear so bare and will be filled with arrangements such as are in your lovely home. The wood floors are hickory ... kitchen cabinets are rustic hicory (with knots) ... and our masterbathroom vanity was made to look like an antique craftsman style piece of furniture (feet and all) ... from quarter-sawn oak. The floor in that room is (vintage style)genuine marmoleum tile squares ... so nice to walk on with wet feet ... all things old are new again :)

Dear Mrs. Mac...
For a second when I opened up your site, I thought I was at Maggie-ann's blog site,
She always has nice pcitures like this!

I am glad that you are going full speed ahead again.

I agree with Miss Patty.
It will be good to see some more pictures.
I would like to see the little gift and the little baby in a picture, together!
I would like to see a spread Sunday table dinner.
And most of all I am waiting for the day to see a picture of you and your bestest friend, "Miss Patty" together when that Miss Patty finally decides to fly over to your palace to look over the room that was built especially for her!!!....Love Terry
