May we never forget the sacrifice of our brave men and women throughout our nation's rich heritage that have given the ultimate price for our freedom. As you celebrate this weekend, take time to teach your children and grandchildren the meaning of this holiday. Camping, cookouts, and water sports are fun ... but they should never overshadow why our country sets aside this day. Speaking of the day ... why does every other holiday involve changing the original date to accommodate a three day weekend??? So what's on your agenda?
In memory of dh's uncle Danny who succumbed to injuries while serving in the Korean war.

Through the feel of war they brave this day
How proud they stand, their unselfish way
Our soldiers bear what we cannot see
They assure our right to live life free
Each trained will face an unknown fate
Our support they need, don’t hesitate
Just imagine how this land would be
Without their courage - catastrophe
All the liberties we have grown to know
Would not exist, this life would go
Find a thankfulness within your mind
Speak gratitude for our bravest kind
Have the willingness to show you care
For fallen heroes, hold back no tear
Reach out to God with his guiding light
For our troops do pray, both day and night
America raise your flags to wave
For we truly are 'home of the brave'

Great post. Memorial day shoudn't be celebrated only for BBQ's and a paid day off of work. We MUST teach the generations of the sacrifice given in the past and continued to this day to keep this country (and others) free and safe.
May God continue to bless America.
I love this post Mrs.Mac.
Nothing against my own country, mind you, but I wish that we were as patiotic as the Americans are.
We have the American TV channels on so we can see all the celebrations of your troops.
The TBN Christian channel is especially good.
Pilot-mom had a beautiful picture on her site and I printed it out to hang on our front window for the Memorial Day weekend!
I might even keep it there!
God Bless America, the president, and all of the brave men and women fighting for freedom!
God bless your son Mrs. Mac!....Love Terry
My Dad served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He brought home the Purple Heart and both silver and bronze stars.
He would agree with your post 100%
In memory of those who gave their all that we might be free. Amen.
Hi Mrs. Mac -- Well, we are back. Early too, due to some tough l**k. You can read what I blogged about it.
Yes, we do tend to forget what our holidays are all about.
Memorial Day is the day here for us to remember Mr. Jim's brother who was killed in WWII. His plane was shot down over the Mediteranian and was never found.
..
Great post. It is indeed an honor to be part of such a great country!
Amen Sister! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Freedom is never free! Especially the freedom we have been given through the Lord Jesus Christ, the ultimate example of sacrifice!

Yes, we must teach our children. Our weekend was filled with family and eating and playing with the kiddos...but we didn't forget to watch the national memorial on Sunday nite nor to call our Navy SIL on Monday..and my hubby wore his Navy ball cap all day...:)

What a beautiful post and poem...and a great truth!
