All In Good Time

A Nathan Story.

One of Nathan's goals this year in his life skills class at school was met yesterday. He has had an aversion to school assemblies, movie theaters, big church, and social gatherings with more than a few people, especially ones that involve sitting in a theater and having the lights go out. We have tried for years to get him in a movie theater ... with no success. The boy LOVES movies btw. Last year his wonderful teacher made arrangements with our local theater for her special needs class to attend a movie. They had the whole theater to themselves and even planned for the lights to stay on and slowly dim ... and keep the entrance open. Nathan sat just outside the theater's back entrance door. A developmental milestone was met this week when he sat outside the doors of a school assembly AND actually went into a movie theater to watch an entire movie with his class. He came home informing us that he wanted to go back (with his girlfriend) to see the movie, "UP" ... (of course he saw a preview for this movie ... he's highly motivated by previews :)
Here's hoping that this will eventually lead up to attending church. Way to go ... Nathan!

for sure...way to go nathan!
i am really afraid mrs. mac that your teenaged boy is growing up to be a young man right before your eyes!!
i can understand his aversion to sitting in a dark theatre.
although mom golden never allowed us to go to shows, i remember one time gary found three dollars and the four of us betty ,me, teddy and gary snuck to a show.
the pitch dark in that building really scared me!
can you believe it mrs. mac. the year was about 1958 and the show was called, "the ice queen"!
so you see i really do understand little nathan. i have always been afraid of the dark. i even sleep with the lights on!

three cheers for your brave little man and i really pray that he will not be afraid of the crowded church when he goes and you know what else mrs. mac?....MANY cheers for his wonderful teacher!.........love terry

now mrs. mac...is this the very same girl that nathan wanted to bring home to meet the family?
oh this is getting scary. very, VERY scary!!...ha!

Congratulations to Nathan - AND everyone who helped him reach this goal!

So important in an 'inclusion' kind of way. He can now let himself into more of world. Sharing himself with everyone else helps us all.

That is awesome! I think most of us have no concept that some every day, "no big deal" things are major hurtles for others! Who knows, maybe this is the start of bigger things for Nathan! (and you)

this is a good post, and I am so happy for you and for Nathan. Such a big step he has taken!

I am sure you must be very happy about it, as well as Nathan.

Praying that before too long he will begin attending church and enjoying it.

Dear Mrs. Mac,
I'm so happy on Nathan's behalf.
Some milestone!
I guess we outsiders will never know have of of these obstacles Nathan already has besieged.

He's not only a smiling, charming boy. He's a fighter too.
You all got every reason to be proud.
Maybe his girlfriend could motivate him to try a church visit?
After all he's reached that age where friends and belonging to a group counts for a lot.
Good luck to all of you.
From Felisol
